LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The state Senate will take up legislation dropping the minimum wage for 18- and 19-year-olds in Michigan to 85 percent of the general minimum wage in Michigan or the federal base wage, whichever is greater. It would lump those teens with those under 18. In addition, the bill sponsored by Portage Republican Margaret O’Brien would increase the hourly training wage for those under 20 from $4.25 to $6.25. The state general minimum hourly wage goes from $8.15 to $8.50 next year.
