Criminal Justice Reform Package Clears State Legislative Hurdle

LANSING, MI (WHTC) – A series of 12 criminal justice system reform bills were moved to the state House floor by the Lower Chamber’s Criminal Justice Committee. Among the measures is increasing the chance of parole for offenders with high chances of rehabilitation once their minimum prison sentence is served, along with lifting a mandatory two-year sentence for felony firearm convictions and changing probation protocols. The reforms were somewhat along the lines of what the Governor had laid out last month.
