KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — We now know the charges a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputy will face when a formal arraignment on the on alcohol related crash on Douglas Avenue is held.
Prosecutor Jeff Getting has signed warrants charging the unidentified deputy with attempted resisting and obstructing an officer, driving drunk, failure to stop after a collision and possession of a firearm while under the influence.
They are all misdemeanors, which means even if convicted, the deputy would technically be able to continue their career.
The Deputy, who was off-duty, allegedly lost control making the turn at Kalamazoo and Douglas, left the lane and sideswiped a vehicle heading south on Douglas.
They claim the Deputy’s car drove on for another block before stopping.
The suspect has been placed is on administrative leave while police and internal investigations proceed, and has not yet been formally charged.
