LANSING, MI (WTVB) – A Michigan Department of Health and Human Services policy tying school attendance to cash assistance benefits is now law. Governor Snyder signed the bill yesterday.
The benefits will be eliminated if students are absent too many days from school. Local districts will determine the threshold for how many days can be missed. Once a student is in class for 21 consecutive days, the benefits are restored.
The bill passed with bipartisan support in the Michigan House.
