LANSING (WKZO)– The Michigan House has approved a road funding plan that even supporters say is just designed to start the debate, not provide a final solution.
Democratic minority leader Tim Greimel panned the package, saying it was more of a road funding “fantasy”, because it relies on future projected revenue which may or may not occur, due to growth.
He says he is willing to spend the summer coming up with a better plan.
House Speaker Kevin Cotter defended the main source of revenue for the plan…anticipated revenues, saying the projections are reliable.
The package of bills has been criticized by everyone from the League for Public Policy, a group that looks after the interests of the poor, to the CEO Roundtable, which represents business leaders.
State economic development officials say it will hurt their efforts because it’s taking a large chunk of their funding.
This plan now goes to the State Senate where it is expected to be largely ignored while the Senators spend the summer coming up with their own plan.
