KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Kalamazoo Public Safety has finally released details about a high speed crash on Sunday that claimed the life of a Kalamazoo man.
They say Donwaun Casanova McFerrin was first spotted by Public Safety driving the wrong way on N. Westnedge. He turned at Drexel, swung around to Hopkins and headed the right way down Westnedge when the officer finally caught up, activating his lights and sirens.
The officer broke off the chase because McFerrin was traveling too fast. The 27-year-old lost control and slid sideways, drivers side first into a tree near Willard St.
He was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at Bronson Emergency.
