GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – The Grand Rapids City Commission will take up a request to put semi-automatic rifles in all Grand Rapids Police Department patrol vehicles at its June 16th meeting.
GRPD officials say the rifles are more accurate than standard-issue weapons and would cost the city around 3000-thousand dollars.
The department’s Special Response Team is currently the only part of the force that is using weapons. Reloading the Colt M4 is faster by about ten seconds than the rifles in use by most officers, and the weapon has a longer range.
