KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — If you live in Kalamazoo County and have a cell-phone, there will be an additional 42-cents tacked onto your phone bill to help finance expanded 9-1-1 service and consolidation beginning July 1st.
The revenue generated by the surcharge will be used as start-up money to get the project off the ground.
One early step will be to hire a facilitator to work out all the details and requirements for combining, updating and improving the five dispatch centers that now exist in the County.
The Dispatch Authority will meet this week to set their fall budget.
They are still working on how to fund the center once it’s up and running.
There will be a 42-cent charge each month, for each phone number you use.
