ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) – There is plenty of news coming out of the Allegan County Courthouse.
Following a pre-trial meeting last week, the attorney for Jonathon Colby told Allegan County prosecutors that the 22-year-old Allegan man will plead guilty to manslaughter and first-degree child abuse charges in a June 15th court hearing. Murder charges will be dropped as part of the agreement. Colby is accused of hitting and choking his three-month-old son Jase in a mobile home off of Starlite Drive last December 3rd; the infant was pronounced dead at Allegan General Hospital.
Meanwhile, a 60-year-old Allegan woman was arraigned on misdemeanor moving violation causing death charges stemming from killing a 35-year-old Allegan man on M-89 between Otsego and Allegan last February 28th. Prosecutors say that Rickie Sheldon Junior parked his vehicle along the eastbound shoulder near 26th Street, picking up a relative whose pickup was broken down across the roadway, when he was struck by Candace Ann Miller’s vehicle as he was attempting to get back into his vehicle.
Finally, a 40-year-old Lawton man will face a preliminary hearing June 30th on misdemeanor moving violation causing death charge in the death of Otsego city staffer Pam Knowlton. The 55-year-old woman was struck by the semi driven by Ottis Jennings last February 26th as she was attempting to cross M-89 Allegan Street at Farmer Street in that Allegan County community’s downtown district. The death has caused some Otsego officials to look into better regulating traffic that flows through that trunk road.
