New Poll Shows Conflicting Statewide Feelings About Detroit Schools

LANSING, MI (WHTC) – A survey released for Michigan Radio by Denno Research and Public Sector Consultants showed 82 percent of 600 statewide respondents feel the state has an obligation to ensure a quality education for Detroit Public Schools students, but only 28 percent feel Lansing should help pay off nearly 500 million dollars in the district’s debt. Several proposals were discussed among state and local leaders during the just-completed Mackinac Policy Conference, and more talks are planned over the summer.
