OAKLAND, CA (WKZO)- Yoenis Cespedes hurt his former team the Oakland Athletics today while helping the Detorit Tigers as he hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to left field. These were the only runs scored by the Tigers as they held on for a 3-2 victory over the Athletics.
Tigers starting pitcher Alfredo Simon was supposed to make the start today, but was placed on the bereavement list. Alex Wilson started in his place and pitched three innings giving up no runs while walking one and striking out one.
Kyle Ryan (1-0) who was called up today pitched the next three innings and gave up one run on three hits while walking three. He also picked up the win.
Joakim Soria picked up the save, his 15th of the seaosn.
The Tigers will remain on the west coast traveling to Los Angeles to take on the Angels beginning Thursday night at 9:40 pm on AM 590 WKZO. Buck Farmer will make his first start of the season for the Tigers while the Angels will send CJ Wilson (2-3 3.36 ERA) to the hill.
