OAKLAND, CA (WKZO)- Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Shane Greene was cruising through five innings and then the Oakland Athletics pounded four consecutive hits to drive home four runs and that was all the offense they needed as the A’s shutout the Tigers 4-0.
Greene (4-3) finished the day pitching 5.2 innings giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out four.
Athletics Pitcher Jesse Hahn (2-4) threw a complete game shutout giving up four hits while walking one and striking out five.
The Tigers did not provide much offense as they only collected four hits on the day and they also reached three times on errors.
Ian Kinsler has now failed to collect a hit in his last 20 at-bats.
With the loss the Tigers have now fallen to third place in the AL Central behind the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins.
The Tigers will attempt to defeat the Athletics tomorrow as they send David Price (3-1 3.32 ERA) to the mound and the Athletics will counter with Jesse Chavez (1-4 2.89 ERA). Broadcast time is at 9:40 pm on 590 WKZO.
