LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Legislation that changes the way the state Department of Transportation inspects bridges across Michigan has cleared the state House. Owosso Republican Ben Glardon’s bill was moved onto the Senate on an 81-vote margin. Under the proposal, M-DOT would inspect spans based on risk in addition to once every four years, as federally mandated. Currently, every state-run bridge gets the once-over biennially. The legislation stemmed from a recent state Auditor General’s Office Report.
