LANSING, MI (WHTC) – MIRS News reports that the Michigan Department of Transportation is “intrigued” by possibly acquiring and using drones. While officials say that this would be a safety issue, keeping workers away from traffic by having the unmanned aircraft handle various surveillance duties, some critics claim that this is more about cost cutting.
The agency has not yet applied to the Federal Aviation Administration for permission to use drones. Currently, the state Police is the only state agency allowed this tool.
