CHARLEVOIX COUNTY, MI (WHTC) – Charlevoix County police got involved in a shootout with a suspect on Saturday that resulted in the suspect and one police deputy being shot. Mlive.com reports that Cpl. Fred Hast was processing a stolen vehicle in Boyne Valley Township yesterday evening when another deputy spotted the man who allegedly stole the vehicle driving away.
The suspect refused to stop after being cautioned by police. Eventually, the suspect stopped along a two track road and declined to exit the vehicle. As police were trying to secure the situation, the suspect fired his gun at Hasty and injured him.
The police shot back at the suspect and subdued him. Hasty and the suspect were transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital. Their conditions have not been released at this time.
