LANSING, MI (WHTC) – A dozen state parks will celebrate the Fourth of July without loud fireworks.
The effort is being made so that veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder may have the opportunity to celebrate quietly.
The parks are located away from urban areas that often host large fireworks displays, and the idea came from a conversation between an employee of the Department of Natural Resources and a veteran.
The DNR notes one in five veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars suffer from PTSD.
