BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) — The Attorney General and The Michigan DEQ have announced a $75-million dollar settlement with Enbridge Energy over that massive oil spill on Talmadge Creek and the Kalamazoo River that occurred nearly five years ago now.
Most of the improvements required of Enbridge have already long since been done, or were already underway including improvements along the river corridor, improving river access by building 5 family friendly boat launches, restoring wetlands and removing the Ceresco Dam.
It also calls for continuing monitoring and removal of sheen and any oil pockets they find. And a variety of restoration programs to flora, fauna and landscaping.
It also calls for reimbursing the Michigan DEQ and paying for legal costs.
The settlement was filed with Judge Sarah Lincoln in the Calhoun County Circuit Court on Tuesday.
