PARCHMENT (WKZO) — The City of Parchment is losing its last paper plant.
The 57-employees at Georgia Pacific’s Dixie Plant were notified Friday that the plant will be closing by the end of the year, and its work consolidated at plants in Wisconsin and Mississippi.
It’s the latest and the last of a series of announcements as plants one by one have shuttered their doors, replaced by more efficient plants overseas.
Some of the workers may be able to get jobs elsewhere in the company, but most will get job placement help, a severance and that will be that.
