BENTON HARBOR (WKZO) — Monte Menefee is back in Michigan, and will be sitting in a jail cell this Mother’s Day, charged with murder, waiting for his next court hearing.
The 47-year-old Coloma man made headlines for several days late last month as he became the prime suspect in the stabbing death of his 79-year-old mother and evaded capture for several days during a cross country escape.
He was eventually captured in Ohio. He waived extradition late this week and was immediately brought back to Berrien County, where he was charged with open murder and ordered held on a million dollars bond.
He is due in court next Friday, the 15th for preliminary exam.
