KALAMAZOO (WKZO) –Zoetis is closing plants and cutting staff to improve their bottom line. Zoetis is the firm created when Pfizer spun off its animal health division.
They plan to trim about 25-hundred of their 9-thousand employees and close 10 of their 29 facilities. They say they can produce more profit if they trim down costs and focus their product line.
They aren’t saying where all these cuts would be made but local officials hope that because Kalamazoo is their headquarters and the local manufacturing plant is one of their largest, that the cuts won’t come here.
The company will not confirm that, only saying they have “confidence” in their Kalamazoo Staff.
In fact if research and development and extraneous management personel are the targets of the cost-cutting, then Kalamazoo County staff could be vulnerable.
The only ones who know aren’t saying.
