HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – If you found a plastic bag in your mailbox this week, it wasn’t a mistake.
The 23rd Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive takes place this Saturday nationwide – except in Holland, Michigan. The food drive, which is carried out by members of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, comes at a critical time for food banks and pantries.
Charities that feed the hungry see an increase in demand nationwide during the summer from a very specific demographic-children.
The plastic bags in your mailbox have been printed with a Family Circus cartoon about battling hunger. Letter carriers will pick up your bag filled with non-perishable food items when they deliver the mail this Saturday. However, due to the Tulip Time Festival, the Stamp Out Hunger campaign in the city of Holland will take place next Saturday, May 16.
Residents outside of the Tulip City are asked to set your bag by your mailbox early Saturday morning. You can also take your donation to your nearby post office.
