LANSING, MI (WHTC) – State Legislative leaders are expected to huddle with Governor Snyder later this week, discussing options after yesterday’s overwhelming defeat of Proposal 1.
Voters rejected the road funding reform issue by a four-to-one margin, although an EPIC-MRA poll showed public sentiment towards continuing to find a solution to repairing Michigan’s transportation infrastructure at 81 percent, and 85 percent of respondents wanted a special summer session of the Legislature to address this.
House Speaker Kevin Cotter (R-Mt. Pleasant) told reporters this morning that he’s crafting a long-term road-funding plan that centers on tax fairness, existing funding, reprioritizing road funding and ensuring quality work, but didn’t give many specifics other than that he would roll it out in “days, not weeks.” He also expressed support for working through the summer on a solution.
