CLIMAX, MI (WKZO)– It’s been confirmed if you felt that tremor this afternoon, it was just a baby quake.
The Epicenter was about 4 to 5 miles south of Galesburg, putting it just to the west of Climax, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids.
It was a 4.2 on the Richter scale according to the USGS.
There have been no reports of any damage. We mostly have heard that homes rattled and a few things fell off tables set up for a yard sale in Vicksburg.
Geophysicist John Belini with the USGA says it was felt through out most of southern Michigan and as far away as northern Indiana and Ohio.
He says older homes may suffer some cracks in old plaster and there could be some damage to very old chimneys with a quake this size.
He says they were not aware of a fault south of Galesburg, but they are now.
He says they are fairly rare.
The last quake of any size in Michigan was a 4.6 that was registered in August of 1946 in roughly the same area.
