LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The state Senate Judiciary Committee took about an hour of testimony on a proposed Michigan Religious Freedom Restoration Act. At the request of Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof of West Olive, no vote was taken on the matter. Speakers on both sides of the issue made impassioned remarks on the pros and cons of legislation that is similar in some ways to a controversial measure signed into law in neighboring Indiana last month. No timetable for a vote by the committee was immediately set by Chairman Rick Jones (R-Grand Ledge).
