DOWAGIAC (WKZO) — A man who died in a shootout with Indiana police after a wild two state crime spree and pursuit earlier this month, is now also being blamed for a bank robbery in South West Michigan.
On April 9th, police in Watseka, Illinois say 29-year-old Don Smith of South Bend robbed a business and fled, carjacking a woman in a NAPA auto parts delivery truck and fleeing into Indiana.
Indiana Troopers say he robbed another business and carjacked two more vehicles before he was cornered by police and died in an exchange of gunfire.
Investigators now claim that a month earlier on March 19th, it was Smith who robbed the Federal Credit Union in Dowagiac.
He got away with that one, at least for a while.
Smith was an ex-con who did time in Indiana for rape and was listed o Indiana
