KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — The Kalamazoo City Commission has unanimously voted to support a request for a new liquor license for a brewpub and small winery, over the objection of residents who say it will be too close to churches and a daycare, and across the Street from the Alano Club on South Burdick, where Alcoholic’s Anonymous meets.
Commissioners say The Brite Eyes Brewing Company it’s more of a restaurant that serves beer and coffee, but they did hear the concerns and asked staff for information on what goes into a site approval. .
They asked the City Manager and the planning staff to generate a report on The Issue.
Commissioner Barb Miller says there is no issue here, the city needs jobs and businesses and she warned it would be bad to throw up barriers.
The Michigan Liquor Control Commission will have final say on the license.
