LANSING, MI (WHTC) – When state lawmakers return to Lansing on Tuesday, work on no-fault insurance reform will again be on the proverbial front burner. Sources told MIRS News that a package of bills approved by the Senate and introduced hours later in the House last Thursday will get a hearing this week before the Lower Chamber’s Insurance Committee. The measures aim to change the unlimited coverage for catastrophic claims and institute a mandated “fee schedule” in an effort to bring down high rates.
In addition, budget measures for several departments will be before the Senate Appropriations Committee for debate. Fiscal 2016 spending plans for the Agriculture, Corrections, Environmental Quality, Veterans and Military Affairs and Natural Resources departments, as well as for the State Police and for the judiciary, have already been sent to the floor of the Upper Chamber. On Tuesday, more departmental fiscal blueprints will be before this committee.
