PORTAGE (WKZO) –Its spring cleaning time and if you live in Portage, the city is offering to haul away some of that trash. The city’s annual spring trash pick-ups begin this week and run through May 21st.
There are rules and limits on what they will collect. They allow you to get rid of old furniture, mattresses and other household trash as long as it’s held in boxes or bundles that weigh no more than 50 lbs.
No refrigerators are allowed unless the fluorocarbons have been drained.
For the first time they will also be collecting from homes on private streets in Portage, if it’s moved out to public streets.
Each neighborhood has an assigned day. Trash should be out at the curb on 7a.m. of that day.
The City of Kalamazoo has a monthly waste and trash pick up year round.
