KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — The fate of Former Kalamazoo Central Ladies Basketball Coach Dan Thornton was the main topic at last night’s School Board meeting with well over a dozen speakers either praising him as the best coach around, or slamming him as an under-qualified ill-tempered bully.
The Board heard from parents, other coaches, and past and current players. Thornton also spoke at the meeting, saying he was a victim of politics, the very politics he was told to ignore.
But hiring and firing personnel is not a board issue, its an administration issue, and Supt. Michael Rice made it clear the decision had been made, and Thornton was out.
There is always a chance that Thornton will coach again at Kalamazoo Central, but if he does, it will be with another team.
