TEXAS TOWNSHIP (WKZO) — Deputies identify the victim as 48-year-old Chadd Michael Wood, from Lawton. He was killed in a fiery traffic wreck in rural Texas Township. Kalamazoo County Deputies say just a little after 8 p.m. Saturday, Wood lost control of his Dodge Viper on W. Q Ave. and crashed into a tree.
The car then caught fire.
Passersby were able to hold back the flames with fire extinguishers until they could pull him from the wreck, the flames engulfing the car just moments later. Despite their heroic efforts, Wood was unresponsive and efforts to revive him failed.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It remains under investigation.
