KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Environmentalists and naturalists who are opposed to the expansion of the BTR park onto the Colony Orchard Farm property took their protest to last night’s Kalamazoo County Board Meeting.
They say the land should remain vacant because it acts as a buffer between U.S. 131 and the Asylum Lake Preserve.
The University argues that it may be the most prime location in South West Michigan for business development, located next to U.S. 131, close to I-94 and adjacent to WMU’s Engineering School.
They say development will result in high paying jobs, and increased tax base for local Governments which have been hard pressed to maintain services because of declining revenue.
