KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — A homeless man is in custody after he forced his way into a home where five women were staying, threatened them with a pair of knives during an attempted robbery.
The 21-year-old suspect was wearing a bandana when he approached the home in the 800 block of Craft St. early Saturday morning.
As he forced the women to move around the house as he looked for things he could take, two of the women escaped and a third barricaded herself in the bathroom where she was able to call 9-1-1.
Township Police were able to respond while the suspect was still in the house.
They announced their presence at the front door, prompting the suspect to break out a second story window, jump out onto the roof of the attached garage and then to the ground, where he was taken into custody.
He required treatment for lacerations and abrasions suffered in his escape. One of the victims suffered a defensive cut on her hand.
She was treated at the scene by an EMS Crew. The suspect is being held for home invasion, armed robbery and felonious assault at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
