PORTAGE (WKZO) — A 16-year-old from Schoolcraft is sitting in the kalamazoo County Juvenile Home today after he led Portage Public Safety officers on a wild cross country chase along western Portage on a dirt bike at 11:30 Wednesday night.
The two-wheeler had no lights, was jumping the curb, cutting across lawns and the front yards of Businesses along Portage Road.
An officer tried to stop him but he hid behind a business. Then the young cyclist cut over to Q Ave. hoping the officers would stop at the city line, but they didn’t.
He was cutting through cornfields and through commercial areas until he splashed down into a retention pond behind Summit Polymers on Sprinkle Road.
That’s where the chase came to a soggy conclusion. He was arrested for fleeing and eluding and other charges may follow.
