LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service has filed a federal class-action lawsuit against the state Department of Corrections, claiming that hearing-impaired inmates in Michigan prisons are being unfairly disciplined due to their infirmary, and that efforts to accommodate them through hearing aids and interpreters have been blocked by department officials. The litigation is based on alleged violations of laws and constitutional amendments. The DOC is not commenting on the case.
