LANSING, MI (WHTC) – An alternative to Proposal 1 has been put forward by a suburban Detroit state lawmaker. Republican Representative Pete Lucido told MIRS News that, based on his calculations, a combination of the interest earned and the principal from the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association fund would be used to pay for road improvements. He cites almost 18 billion dollars in assets currently in the fund. MCCA officials say that this money needs to be left alone for continuing present and future claims.
