KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Phase two of the Stadium Drive reconstruction project begins next week.If you travel that way regularly, you may want to scout out detours ahead of time.
They are going to be turning the intersection of Stadium and U.S. 131 into the same ramp design as the one they recently built at I-94 and Westnedge, only this one will have the highway on the bottom and the local traffic overhead. They call it a SPUI, a Single Point Urban Interchange.
MDOT’s Nick Schrippa says it’s a design that can handle more traffic.
If all goes as planned it should be complete by September.
Until then expect to live without access to the ramps and to lane restrictions on Drake Road for most of the summer.
