CHARLOTTE. NORTH CAROLINA (WKZO) — Travis Trice poured in 23 points as seventh-seeded Michigan State upended second-seeded Virginia 60-54 in East Regional play in Charlotte.
Branden Dawson added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Spartans.
Michigan State bounced Virginia from the “Big Dance” for the second straight year.
Anthony Gill netted 11 points for the Cavaliers, who shot just 29.8-percent from the floor and hit only 2-of-17 from three-point range. Virginia ends the year 30-and-4.
Next stop for the Spartans, The Carrier Dome in Syracuse to take on the #3 seed, the Oklahoma Sooners in the Sweet 16 Friday night.
Its the 3rd straight year that Michigan State has made it to the third round, and the 7th time in the last 8 years.
