LANSING (WKZO) — Seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates are on the rise in all 17 major labor market areas of Michigan according to the Department of Technology, Management and Budget.
A spokesman for the department says the increases were expected due to “typical seasonal payroll job reductions and jobless rate increases.”
Rate increases ranged from six-tenths of a percent to two-point-five-percent, but the jobless numbers are lower than a year ago.
Kalamazoo and Battle Creek both recorded jobless rates that were below the national average of 6.1%.
The largest year-over-year declines were in the Flint Metropolitan Statistical Area, the Northeast Lower Michigan region and the Muskegon MSA.
