LANSING, MI – Michigan Governor Rick Snyder says there is no other plan to fix the state’s roads other than Proposal One which will be on the ballot in May. The plan calls for the state’s sales tax to increase from six to seven-percent and an increase in vehicle registration fees. The plan has drawn criticism from many who believe the problem of fixing the roads should have been handled by the Legislature. The House and Senate could not agree on a proposal, so a compromise was to put the issue before the voters. Snyder noted that Proposal One will eliminate gas and diesel fuel from the sales and use taxes and requires warranties from contractors on projects over one-million dollars.
