COVERT, MI (WHTC) – The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has been notified of tritium in ground water on two temporary wells at the Palisades Plant site near Covert. According to the official report on the NRC’s website, the problem first surfaced on February 26th, with the situation promptly isolated and the likely source rerouted. Water samples taken on Wednesday showed less than “minimal detectable activity” for tritium. The wells are for on-site sampling and not for drinking, with NRC inspectors at the plant saying that there is no threat to public safety.
