State House Committee Forwards Bill to Protect “Good Samaritan” Food Donations from Litigation

LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The state House Agriculture Committee forwarded a bill that would protect restaurants, grocers, farmers and others who donate food from litigation unless it is proven to be spoiled or otherwise not fit to eat. The legislation stems from reports that up to 40 percent of all surplus or uneaten food products nationwide are dumped because of legal liability issues. Various restaurant and grocer associations, as well as the state Agriculture Department, support this “Good Samaritan” bill.
