LANSING (WKZO) — The Michigan House has just voted to approve a package of bills that would permit faith-based adoption agencies to deny child placements with LGBT couples or singles, because it violates their religious beliefs and still receive state funding.
State Representative Eric Leutheiser says these bills just codify the current status.
Kalamazoo Democrat Jon Hoadley says if this becomes law, it will be challenged in the courts because its unconstitutional and discriminatory. .
Only about 17 or 18 of the state’s 109 adoption agencies are faith-based.
The package of bills now heads to the Senate where approval is expected.
