LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan State Police this week demonstrated their new drone, which is just the latest addition to their fleet of flying vehicles, which includes helicopters and airplanes. Each drone has two operators, one to flip the switches and the other to act as a spotter.
Accoring to State Police Sgt. Jerry King, a new set of guidelines was developed with help from the ACLU to assure public privacy. He says it’s a lot cheaper to operate than a plane or a helicopter and can do things they can’t.
The drone they are using now can fly in 40 mph winds, has a thermal imaging camera for search and rescue operations, and can fly for 50-minutes on a charge.
