FLORIDA (WKZO) — A Holland Marine was believed to be on board a helicopter that crashed during a training mission in Florida. Their status is unknown because they have yet to find the wreckage.
The chopper, which had seven marines in a special forces unit and four Army crewmen on board may have gone into the Gulf off the Florida Panhandle in heavy fog.
The Coast Guard reportedly spotted debris and some has washed up on shore.
According to the Holland Sentinel, Marine Sgt. Andrew Seif of Holland was on board that Army Blackhawk.
Seif was a West Ottawa High grad who was recently awarded the Silver Star for risking his life to save a wounded soldier while both were under heavy fire in Afghanistan in 2012.
The search continues.
