KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Future court hearings for a Kalamazoo man charged with setting the Hollywood Nights Adult entertainment store on fire have been put on hold until after he has received a comprehensive psychological work-up to determine if he is competent to stand trial.
Mitch Hapner reportedly confessed to detectives that he was compelled by God to torch the business on south Westnedge to rid the neighborhood of pornography.
He did so on Ash Wednesday, February 18th. His preliminary hearing had been scheduled for this past week but it was adjourned once this motion was aproved. .
The owners of the destroyed businesssay they were not insured and lost everything in the fire. Family members say Hapner has a history of mental illness.
