DETROIT (WKZO) — The U.S. Attorney in Detroit has announced the arrest of a 17-member gang of jewelry store robbers based in the Motor City who used the same tactics and techniques used by the gang that has tried to rob Medawar’s jewelers several times.
U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade says they rush the businesses in strength, armed with sledge hammers and guns, and smash and grab what they want.
She says while they were based in Michigan, they only pulled off jobs out of state.
A heist at Medawar’s in Grand Rapids prompted that operation to take security precautions and since then, sledgehammer resistant glass and armed employees has successfully foiled two robbery attempts.
