LANSING (WKZO) — A debate has begun over whether it’s a good idea to let people bring loaded handguns into schools and libraries.
It’s illegal to carry a concealed weapon into a school.
Rep. Jon Hoadley says it’s currently legal to “open carry” a gun in a holster into a school. He calls that a loophole that he would like to close with new legislation.
But Tom Lambert, with Open Carry Michigan says it’s not a loophole it’s the law, and he says he sees nothing wrong with a law-abiding citizen possessing a gun in a school building or anywhere else.
Hoadley wonders how school staff and police are supposed to know what that person intends to do with that gun, especially when you don’t even need a license to open carry.
