JACKSON, MI (WHTC) – Consumers Energy officials are alerting customers of a phone scam involving the use of a prepaid credit card. They say that “imposters are ramping up efforts in Michigan and elsewhere” in targeting small commercial customers, after 241 reports of scams came to the Jackson-based utility during the first two months of this year, 10 of which were victimized to the tune of nearly 13 thousand dollars. Any Consumers’ customer who may get such a call is asked to contact the utility at 800-477-5050.
