LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The state is issuing bonds for 50 million dollars to be sent to community colleges statewide in helping them train students in skilled trades. The 18 schools selected are putting up 21.5 million in matching funds for the program, which is part of the Governor’s 70 million-dollar strategy to address a shortage in Michgian’s skilled trade workforce. Kalamazoo Valley CC is getting nearly 3.6 million dollars from Lansing; Kellogg CC is receiving 2.1 million. Legislative appropriations will pay back the bond money.
