DEARBORN (WKZO) — Gas prices are on the rise. They have gone up over a nickle just since AAA did their statewide survey on Friday.
GasBuddy.com is now listing the statewide average at $2.34/gallon and the Kalamazoo average two cents higher than that.
Trilby Lundberg, who does a regular national survey every two weeks, says gas prices have jumped about 26-cents a gallon during that time due to several issues, including worker strikes at refineries in the south western U.S.
Her poll shows the national average stands at $2.33/gallon.
The strike spread over the weekend to new plant which could further reduce supply and increase pump prices. Reuters reports that the strikes are now impacting about one-fifth of the national production capacity.
Lundberg says this is the season for rising prices as refineries switch over to summer blends and do necessary maintenence. She predicts gas prices will continue to rise, but more slowly than in the past two weeks.
She notes that prices are still over a dollar lower than where they stood at this time last year.
